A Sparkle On Your Driveway

Kia ora Class 4 circle,

I hope you all had a great weekend, caught some sunlight, touched up on your journals if you wanted, read a good book and maybe shared a laugh with your Team Lock Down.

I went for a few walks over the weekend and got lost in my own neighbourhood. I didn't mind too much, after all, I had plenty of time. What made my walk extra enjoyable, was the street art children and adults had put at the end of their driveway.

Making street art is not new. In Europe (maybe in many other part of the world, but Europe is where I have come across it) there are people who make an income with it. They draw beautiful pictures on the street, often with religious themes. Once they are done, people throw coins on it. The artists collects the coins. Kind of busking, but then with chalk instead of music.

Cities look so much prettier with those artists around. I have seen it a few times in Christchurch, but not enough.

Another famous 'street artist' is Banksy. No one knows who Banksy is actually, he is not doing it because he wants to be rich or famous, he just wants to make people think and feel. He prefers his art being on street corners instead of in art galleries, because then all people can see it, not just the people who like going to see art.

So I didn't have to think much about our next journal task. Let's put a sparkle into someone's day with our art. Here we go:

  1. Find an inspirational picture, quote or design something which will put a smile on someone's dial.
  2. Dig out any street chalk you have lying in your garage. If your really don't have any, water paint works as well.
  3. Turn the bottom of your drive into a work of art. If your drive way is not meeting up with a place where people walk, consider taking your chalks on your walk and decorate a walk way, a part in the park etc.
  4. If you can, take a photo of your work for your journal. If you can't take photos or print them, use your sketch from step 1 or do a drawing of your street art in your journal.
  5. From a short distance, observe the reactions of people when they see your work. Does it put smiles upon dials? Write in your journal about the reactions of people walking past.
Have fun with this one my gorgeous Class 4, I'll be walking my streets and looking out for your sparkle.

See you tomorrow,
Angela

  1. At Easter, we created Pacman artworks on the footpath, where the Pacmen were trying to eat Easter eggs. And we drew Happy Easter messages. There are some really cool artworks around our neighbourhood, we will email you some pics of them.

    1. Love it. In my street, there are lots of excersie ideas as well, skip on one foot, dance until the next tree and so on. Brightens my day!
